Nutro Dog Food Review

One of the most startling things we have encountered in our review of the commercial dog food industry is the fact that many, if not most, commercial dog foods are quite possibly toxic, and dangerous for your dogs! One of the most disturbing revelations we encountered was the fact that many dog food makers use DEAD, EUTHANIZED pets and zoo animals, as sources for their dog foods! The consumer-public does not appear to be aware of this problem, and the reason is no surprise.

Most commercial dog food brands have healthy-sounding names, such as Nutro Dog Food, Beneful, Science Diet (all brand names are trademarks of their respective parent companies, and as an independent consumer advocate, we have NO affiliation with any commercial dog food manufacturer or brand.) In addition, many commercial dog foods display labels such as "all-natural," "organic," "holisitc," "gourmet," or "premium."

\"Science Diet\"

In fact, the dog food industry spend millions of dollars every year in an effort to convince the public that their dog foods are healthy. In addition, we found that the dog food industry regularly lobbies to Congress and the FDA to AVOID having to clearly label the source of the components of their dog foods! This shocked us, because if the dog food is actually healthy, then why the need to maintain the ability to use uncommon and lengthy scientific names in their ingredient list? Why wouldn't the commercial dog food companies want the public to EASILY understand what the dog foods are made out of??

Nutro Dog Food Review

So we decided to investigate different commercial dog foods, to see if we could determine what is actually in them, and where the components for the food actually comes from. Following is our review of Nutro Dog Food. More reviews are to come! Again, we are only disclosing the information that they have already publicly disclosed on their website, to see if we can make sense of it. We are NOT indicating an opinion one way or the other, whether or not this food is healthy.

We found descriptive words like "Natural Nutrition," "Ultra-Holistic Nutrition," and "Super-Premium," to describe their dog foods. Regarding ingredients, Nutro Dog Food lists "natural ingredients with added vitamins and minerals," and also "real chicken protein or real beef protein." Their website claims that there are "no artificial preservatives," nor are there "artificial colors, flavors, or sweeteners."

The ingredients list is as follows: "Chicken Meal, Wheat Flour, Ground Whole Wheat, Corn Gluten Meal, Rice Bran, Poultry Fat (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E), Ground Rice, Chicken, Natural Flavors, Sodium Bicarbonate, Calcium Carbonate, Monosodium Phosphate, Potassium Chloride, Potassium Carbonate, Yeast Culture, L-Lysine, Salt, Choline Chloride, Zinc Sulfate, Vitamin E Supplement, Iron Oxide, Dried Kelp, Lecithin, Garlic Flavor, Ascorbic Acid (source of Vitamin C), Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Copper Proteinate, Niacin, Vitamin A Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, Copper Sulfate, Manganous Oxide, Riboflavin (source of Vitamin B2), Thiamine Mononitrate (source of Vitamin B1), Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (source of Vitamin B6), Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (source of Vitamin K activity)."

All in all, we could not find anything on the Nutro Dog Food website that indicated they were involved in any of the practices mentioned earlier in this article. We believe that the ingredient list does not indicate any chemicals known to be harmful to dogs or people. The inclusion of "ground whole wheat" and "dried kelp" leads us to believe that Nutro Dog Food is probably one of the healthy dog food brands on the market.

The whole point, however, is that there really is no way to know. The main driving forces behind all public corporations are profit, and increasing stock price. We believe it is the obligation of all responsible dog-owners to make sure they are aware of what's really in the food that they feed to their dogs!

Dog Food Recall Widens - 8000 Complaints Filed

As the nationwide recall of contaminated dog food widens, the Nestle Purina Pet Care Company has now recalled some of its dog food upon discovery that it is tainted with ingredients that have contributed to the kidney failure and death of dogs.

The contaminated ingredient is wheat gluten from China. This wheat gluten is from the same supplier that delivered wheat gluten to Menu Foods who earlier recalled more than 95 brands of dog food sold as private label dog food and as major brands through large dog food retailers.

An added concern is a dog food recommended by many dog veterinarians, the Hill's Science Diet brand, manufactured by Colgate Palmolive. Hills Prescription diet feline has been added to the recall

While this recall affects feline food at this time, we would suggest that all precautions be taken and to stop feeding any Hills Science Diet dog food as well until assured that the dog food recall will not be extended to this portion of the line as well. Err on the side of caution.

For many years, dog enthusiasts have questioned the nutrition value and safety of Hill's Science Diet because of certain preservative and additives that dog nutrition experts have deemed to be unsafe.

To date more than 8,000 complaints have been received with regard to dog kidney failure and death since the inception of the dog food recall.

How to Stay Young? Anti-Aging and the Importance of Herbs

Research has uncovered remarkable youth-restoring foods and herbs that decrease the effects of aging on the body and mind.

In the rolling countryside of Southern France lived a woman named Jeanne Louise Calment. Louise lived to be an astonishing 122 years old. Even more astounding, even at the end of her days, she was bright, active, and remarkably energetic.

\"Science Diet\"

But what were the secrets to her astounding longevity?

How to Stay Young? Anti-Aging and the Importance of Herbs

Scientists have identified a selection of stunningly powerful anti-aging foods and herbs.

Why is cancer and heart disease far less prevalent in China? Why do the Japanese have less problems with their cholesterol levels than we do?

Why do the Greeks have one of the lowest heart disease rates in the world? Even though they get up to 40% of their calories from fat!

What's more, is that you'll find similar healthy populations all over the Mediterranean - including France, Italy and Crete.

This is where knowing which foods to eat, and which herbs to take, is crucial.

The traditional Mediterranean diet may be high in fat, but it is mostly unsaturated fats, for example, from Olive Oil.

The saturated fats raise LDL cholesterol, " the bad type of cholesterol ", but the unsaturated fats don't.

When you eat the right diet and take the correct herbs, you'll feel lighter, more energetic and more alert. You will begin to lose weight and reach your healthy weight. Health issues will begin correcting themselves. Your immune system will get stronger and better shield you against diseases.

There are a number of herbs which are highly prized and renowned for their anti-aging and longevity promoting effects. Science has extensively verified that these complex plant medicines have the ability to prolong the duration and quality of life.

Many of these anti-aging herbs are adaptogens and tonics. They normalize metabolic, hormonal and neurological systems and stimulating cellular regeneration. Others have more focused effects on different body systems, like the brain, heart, circulatory system or immunity, and protecting against the effects of stress.

Let's look at the brain and the circulatory system, as examples. With all its complexity and subtlety, the brain is highly sensitive to toxic impacts over time. Free radicals add to this problem. Then, as circulation becomes diminished, the brain receives less vital nutrients and antioxidants.

Specific herbs are known to enhance the levels of neurotransmitters, particularly acetylcholine, and improve bloodflow to the brain, thereby increasing its oxygen and nutrient supply. And even more than this, such herbs augment the metabolism, detoxification and healthy functioning of brain cells. As free radical fighters, they can neutralize damaging toxins, as well as help and reduce arteriosclerosis.

Herbs for circulatory system help both the arterial system, leading from the heart to all the tissues and organs, and the venous system, which returns to the heart. Narrowing of the arteries can be very painful, as the tissues become starved for oxygen. Prevention of damage to the elastic tissue in the arterioles and veins is ideal.

Specific herbs, with their antioxidants, help stimulate circulation through the small arteries, veins and capillaries. They also act to protect and heal the vessel linings and valves, with their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Additionally, a variety of herbs can be alternated over time to obtain maximum full spectrum results. Be sure to consult with your doctor / health care provider first, before taking any herbal supplements.

3 Day Cardiac Diet Review

The 3 Day Cardiac Diet supposedly comes from the Birmingham Hospital in Alabama, hence it is also known as the Birmingham Hospital Diet. According to reports, this diet plan was designed for the use of patients who needed to lose up to 10 lbs weight quickly so they could undergo surgery.

The true origins of this diet are not clear and the Birmingham Hospital does not claim responsibility for it. Moreover, the diet now appears to have become the stuff of internet legend as there are versions of it widely known under a variety of names, including the Tuna Fish Diet, Baptist Hospital 3 day Diet, 3 day Navy Diet, 3 day Army Diet, Birmingham Cardiac Diet, Florida 3 Day Diet, American Heart Association Diet, Alabama 3 Day Diet, Hospital 3 Day Diet, and more.

However, there is a strong correspondence between the menu plans of these different versions so, for all intents and purposes, they can be treated as the same diet and comments applicable to one are substantially applicable to them all.

3 Day Cardiac Diet Review

In summary, the 3 Day Cardiac Diet comprises menu plans for breakfast, lunch and dinner covering a period of three days. The daily calorie intake is about 1,000 calories, so much of the weight loss benefit is likely obtained by the restricted calorie intake, although some claim is made that the benefit is due to chemical reaction. Eating a low level of carbohydrates will also mean that water is lost from the body.

For the plan to produce results, it's important to keep hydration levels up by drinking plenty of water: 6-8 cups is recommended. This also aids digestion.

An important source of protein for the 3 day Cardiac diet is tuna. 1/2 cup of tuna is consumed on the first two days, increasing to 1 cup on the third day. Variety and nutrition is provided with small portions of vegetables, grapefruit, banana, cheese, eggs, crackers and toast. Coffee or tea is permitted with meals. (For a detailed menu, do a quick search for my article, "3 Day Tuna Fish Diet- Menu and Diet Plan".)

Some concerns about this diet stem from the restricted levels of calories and nutrition. As the calories provided in this diet are so low, it's is likely that followers will feel hunger pangs and lower energy levels, especially by the third day. Vitamins and minerals are also low so that probably a multi vitamin supplement should be recommended as an additional source.

With only three small meals a day, your body may start to recognize that only a limited food supply is available and begin to compensate by reducing metabolism and energy levels to conserve fat reserves. This actually makes it harder to lose weight and, along with the feelings of hunger, places the body under additional stress.

The 3 Day Cardiac diet does not claim to be suitable for long term use and after 3 days you should follow a program that offers more variety in the content to provide the proteins, fats, carbohydrates and other nutrients that your body needs. More variety would also make it easier to follow this plan, as well as more enjoyable.

It is possible to follow a quick weight reduction plan that offers a more balanced and healthier range of foods. In particular, one which includes a technique known as calorie shifting and takes into account your own food preferences would be a good choice.

Following the 3 Day Cardiac Diet provides restricted calories and nutrients for its intended duration and the weight loss benefits come with some risk to health as well as bodily stress. Also, the diet is not a long term solution and any weight loss reduction could well be offset by food binging that results when your eating program returns to normal. A better approach would be to follow a dieting plan that is more likely to bring true fat loss and provide a continuing, long term loss of weight, along with a slimmer, trimmer, more attractive body shape.

Here's a simple diet plan for women. Weight loss should come pretty easy if you follow this or make just a few adjustments. Nothing complicated here... just take the next 2 minutes to read this to get an idea on what you have to do for some serious weight loss.

Diet Plan for Women Weight Loss

1. Breakfast

Diet Plan For Women Weight Loss

Have a protein shake with some cottage cheese in it. Also have a low calorie yogurt or 2 pieces of fruit. This will give you the necessary protein and energy to start the day out right. There's some flexibility here. So don't feel like you're limited. Lots of choices and flavors you can mix and match here.

2. Lunch

Go with a soup or salad and make sure it has at least 20 grams of protein in it

Soups and salads are great for filling people up. But they're missing something usually. What? PROTEIN. By adding protein, you're making a meal out of it. Again, lots of choices here. Don't get hung up on just 1 thing. You have options. You won't get bored if you think creatively.

3. Dinners

A lean meat with 2 side dishes of vegetables is ideal. More good protein while having some healthy vegetables. Oh, one thing. Make sure 1 of the vegetables is NOT potatoes. Potatoes are a starchy carb and they spike your blood sugar too much. So it's best to avoid them.

4. Snacks

Stick with apples and bananas. You can't go wrong with these. You have no excuses either since apples and bananas are easy to bring anywhere.

Look, this basic diet plan for women weight loss is simple and uncomplicated and it'll give you all the nutrition you want, while also giving you a burst of energy all while you're losing weight. Don't just think about doing this... DO IT NOW.

Apple Diet - It Works For Weight Loss, But Beware of 1 Version Of This Diet

Ever hear of the apple diet? It's a popular weight loss diet that has numerous versions and spin-offs. A lot of these versions are healthy and work for weight loss, however 1 version you must absolutely avoid.

First, why the apple diet works...

A big reason on why the apple diet works has to do with the high water content and high amount of fiber in each apple. The high water content allows you to "eat water" basically. The foods you mostly "eat water" with are generally low in calories, but very filling. For example, a 300-calorie candy bar won't fill you up, but 300-calories worth of apples will.

Apple Diet - It Works For Weight Loss, But Beware of 1 Version Of This Diet

Another reason why the apple diet works is because each apple has 5 grams of fiber in it. It has both soluble and insoluble fiber. Having a high fiber intake is a big part of successful long term weight loss programs.

The average American only gets about 12 grams of fiber each day. It's recommended that you get 25 grams of fiber each day. I, however, advocate getting 35-50 grams of fiber each day for easy long term weight loss.

There are 2 rules to the apple diet...

Rule #1: Eat 1 apple before each meal

This is the main rule. Very simple, huh?

Just eat 1 apple before each of 3 meals. Nothing more. I won't even tell you to stop eating your favorite foods. Obviously, if you eat a little bit more healthy, you'll increase the speed in which you lose weight... but I won't force you to eat healthier.

Rule #2: Don't forget rule #1

Seriously, there is just 1 rule to the apple diet. However I want to add that I've found that my clients who have tried the apple diet get better results simply by following rule #1 and eating healthy snacks.

That's all you need to change in your diet... eat an apple before each of 3 meals... and eat healthy snacks. You can continue to eat more unhealthy type of foods for your meals. Just don't eat unhealthy snacks!

So, if you want an easy weight loss plan that isn't complicated and doesn't require much thinking on your part, try the apple diet.

3 Day Tuna Fish Diet Review

Well like most people I had put a little weight on over the winter and decided to try and take a bit off. I only needed to lose about 10 pounds or so to get to my normal weight so as silly as it seemed I decided to give the 3 day tuna fish diet a try. I figured it was quick and not to complicated so no harm done if it didn't work. So off I went to the grocery store with my shopping list.

For those who have never heard of this diet, basically it involves eating tuna every day at one meal and your suppose to be able to lose about 10 pounds which was right in my sweet spot. You can find several variations of it online, you may have even had it sent to you via email spam. I must say I did modify it a bit and ate tuna every day at lunch even though on day 3 I was suppose to eat it a dinner, but other than that I ate what the diet told me to. I am sure this had no drastic effect on my results.

My first day of the 3 day tuna fish diet was very easy as it hardly seemed like a diet at all. Not sure what this says about my normal eating habits. On the second day I did become a little hungry though as it felt like I had missed a meal some where. By the third day though I was hungry and very sick of tuna, I was not bothered by it to much as I knew it was pretty much going to be over soon.

3 Day Tuna Fish Diet Review

The Results

I had checked my weight on the morning I began the 3 day tuna fish diet before breakfast so I waited till the morning of day 4 before breakfast to check the results. As I stepped on the scale with my stomach growling in anticipation I was expecting great things, well net result was I lost 2.5 pounds. That is probably the same as I would of lost if I had just restricted my diet a little over the 3 day period. It wasn't that difficult to stick to but don't really think the results are more than you get with just healthy eating. In the past the Dean Ornish diet is the diet I have had the most success with but it is very hard to stick to.

3 Day Diet May Be The Healthiest Diet!

3 day diet origin leads to from Cleveland Clinic Diet as the institute who published this 3 day diet program in 1970. The short time span helped the 3 day diet to gain its popularity among dieters. The 3 day diet program is also known as the Navy three day diet, Baptist hospital 3 day diet, Florida 3 day diet, Army 3 day diet, and lot of others bizarre nicknames.

The amounts of nicknames available indicate the popularity of this diet. However experts are continuously bashing this diet as it falls under the category of fad diet. Experts also said that fad diets effects are temporary, and weight will likely be gained as fast as Paris Hilton hit the newspaper.

But before we follow the experts advice and start bashing the diet let's take a closer look and learn about the diet facts. I am not an expert dietician but I know a lot about the experiences of going through a diet. I know how hard fad diet is and I know that weight problems sometimes are more important than our health itself for some people in some occasions. So let's see the 3 day diet from a commoner point of view.

3 Day Diet May Be The Healthiest Diet!

3 Day diet meals plan emphasizes on eating a limited carbohydrates and a lot of omega 3 fat acids. The basic meals plan for three day diet is listed below along with the obligation to drink at least four glasses of water, two cups of coffee or tea and a glass of cranberry juice everyday.

First Day:

Breakfast: Consume half a grapefruit, a slice of dry toast with 2 tablespoons of peanut butter.

Lunch: Consume half cup of dry tuna with a slice of dry toast.

Dinner: Consume 2 slices of meat, 1 cup of green beans, 1 small apple and half cup of vanilla ice

Second Day:

Breakfast: Consume 1 egg, a slice of dry toast and half banana.

Lunch: Consume half cup of Tuna or 1 cup of cottage cheese along with 5 saltine crackers.

Dinner: Consume 2 beef franks, a cup of cabbage, 1/2 cup of carrots, 1/2 banana and 1/2 cup of vanilla ice cream.

Third Day:

Breakfast: Consume 5 saltine crackers along with 1 apple with a slice of cheddar.

Lunch: Consume one hard boiled egg with 1 slice of toast

Dinner: Consume 1 cup of tuna, 1 cup of carrots and melon and half cup of vanilla ice cream.

Looking from a commoner point of view, we can see that these meals plan is actually a balanced meals plan. We have our piece of carbohydrates there from the regular consumption of the toast and saltine crackers. Our fat is supplied by Tuna which we consume everyday, the fat from fish is actually classified into good fat. Not mentioning another protein intake from meat, egg and beef franks. As those are not enough, we are required to gobble a lot of vegetables like cabbage, carrots and beans. Cabbage is actually a negative calories vegetable, so that will help burning down your calories. And those vegetables can act as diuretic while providing your body with vitamins. Our fruit is a little banana that gives us the potassium intake.

Well looks like the 3 day diet is just promoting a balanced eating by putting a lot of emphasis on eating a lot of vegetables. Compare this 3 day diet into the diet that people are doing by stop consuming carbohydrates or protein, this 3 day diet is a lot healthier. In fact this 3 day diet reminds us about our body daily needs, which are vegetables, fruits, meat and carbohydrates.

I am sure even our eating habit everyday cannot match the completeness of this diet. We used to take sweetened cereal or toast packed with jam in the morning, grab fast foods for lunch and again either eats frozen foods, we go and grab other fast foods. So I don't see what's wrong with this diet, with weight loss as a bonus. In fact by following this meals plan as guidelines we can live healthier and longer and also thinner!

Low Carb Diet Side Effects

Many people curious about starting a low carb diet wonder if there are side effects they need to be aware of before getting started. Many also wonder if there are harmful low carb diet side effects too, so let's look at the most common side effects of low carb dieting, and talk about whether any of these are harmful.

Some of these low carb diet side effects can be problematic for people with health conditions, particularly if they're taking medications for those conditions. Often the side effects are good, but you need to be aware they can happen and talk to your medical care provider because they'll need to monitor your progress and possibly change, reduce, or eliminate medications as you progress.

For instance, a very common low carb diet side effect is lowered, or more even blood sugar levels. This is an important low carb diet side effect for any diabetic, particularly ones that take insulin shots or medication. Since low carb diets can drastically reduce your blood sugar levels naturally, your doctor may need to adjust your medication levels to compensate for those changes.

Low Carb Diet Side Effects

Another low carb diet side effect is of course losing a lot of weight. This by itself is not technically a side effect, but related effects of losing weight can include regulation of blood pressure, easing or disappearance of digestive tract problems, and resolution of breathing problems too.

If you're taking high blood pressure medication, then the side effect of having that lowered from eating a low carb diet will need to be addressed by your doctor or medical care specialist. The same applies for digestive troubles, if you experience resolution to those problems as a low carb dieting side effect, your doctor will need to adjust or eliminate the medications you take.

Now if you don't take medications for conditions such as those listed above, you may still experience low carb diet side effects, but they're likely to be ones you're happy to have.

Common, "good" low carb diet side effects include reduced cravings for sugars and starches; increased energy; reduced bloated and gassy, upset stomach feelings; improved bowel movements; regulated blood sugar levels and blood pressure levels; loss of excess water retention; and of course, loss of excess body fat.

There are some low carb diet side effects that are not harmful, but you need to be aware of them because they are uncomfortable at best. These low carb diet side effects are more common during the first one to five days on the diet, and are side effects of your body adjusting to your eating changes. These side effects can include headaches; nausea; dizziness; lethargy or low energy; severe sugar cravings; irritability; and constipation.

There are also a couple of women specific low carb diet side effects. In the first week or two of your new low carb diet, you may experience oddities with your monthly menstrual flow. Usually this side effect lasts a short time though, and is caused by your body adjusting to the new eating lifestyle you've chosen. A great low carb diet side effect comes later: Women's menstrual flow is usually reduced, and there is generally much less pain or other problems involved while you're on a low carb diet.

Many of those early low carb diet side effects can be reduced by drinking extra water and getting plenty of rest, plus making sure you don't go hungry. In rare cases these initial low carb diet side effects can last as long as ten days, but usually they're present from approximately the third to the fifth day of your low carb diet.
